Iran starts digging Mideast’s largest water transfer tunnel

Iran has started operation for digging the largest water transfer tunnel of the Middle East in Karman province, southeastern Iran.

The 38 kilometer long tunnel is part of a water transfer channel from Safaroud Dam to Kerman Province which would settle drinking water problem of people in north Kerman Province in long term.

The tunnel which is 3.90 cm wide is capable of transferring 21.000 liter of water to northern Kerman per second.

Iran has also installed a Tunnel Boring Machine which automatically digs, concretes and mounts ring to speed up the operations.
